plain oatmeal family breakfast
This cooked plain oatmeal for breakfast is simple, economic, and fast.

- 2 cups oats
- 6 cups milk
- 2 small apples
- 3 tbsp raisins/sultanas
- pinch salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Measure out the ingredients.
Add the dried oats to the pot on the stove.
Add in the salt and cinnamon.
The measured out milk can now be added. Turn the hob/stove top on to medium high Keep stirring.
When the porridge comes to the boil, immediately turn it down to a simmer.
Grate the apple/s and add into the pot. Stir all in and mix together well. Put the lid on the pot.
Leave it at a gentle simmer for about 10 minutes.
Ready to serve. Simple, balanced and delicious.
Do not leave the pot unattended. Milk can easily burn or boil over.
As the contents in the pot are heating up, keep stirring as milk can also easily catch/burn on the bottom of the pot.
When it is ready to serve. You can add in the optional extras.
Do this according to preference.
Extra milk or hot water (if you are strictly adhering to the eating for life family meal planner then only add in hot water to thin it out) can also be added if the porridge is too thick.
