We love breakfast and we love plain oatmeal granola dust. I love sharing the recipe and eating ideas anything to do with oats. It is such a healthy and versatile product. If you love coffee and if you love chocolate, then this is for you;)

all over the world
No matter where we have lived, and yes – we have traveled and have lived on three different continents, we can always find oats. I love sharing with you what we get to do with oats. When you add in a few simple ingredients (oats, coffee, and cocoa powder), bake them for a short while, then add in a few more favorites (dried fruit) – blitz it up to a fine powder and you have a winner.
One of our very favorite things to do with oats is to make Granola Dust.
plain oatmeal granola dust
What is Granola Dust? It is when you bake together oats, nuts & seeds and then add in powdered cocoa, coffee, and dried fruit. When it has all cooled down then you get to blitz it up into a powder.
This can be stored in a glass jar and you then have a healthy instant breakfast, ready to go. This will certainly go a long way to ease the crazy morning rush that any family finds itself in at certain times.

There are so many variations to how you can use this up.
You can just add milk, let it stand for a little bit to allow the oats to rehydrate, and then just enjoy it is as-is. I’ve done this on many an afternoon when I have needed a quick afternoon snack. The nice thing about this option is that it is healthy and you can choose which milk to add to the mix. It can be dairy or not. Experiment to find out what works best for you.

For the best consistency, I like to start off with equal part granola dust to milk. I like half-cup measures of each, let it soak for a bit, and then enjoy.
For a good breakfast also add in yogurt and some fresh fruit and that will set you off in a good, healthy, and nutritious way.
variety
This amazing recipe by Jamie Oliver has flexibility and variety. Give some of these options a try and let me know in the comments which you have tried and loved, would love to hear from you.

Porridge – add in 50g of granola dust to 200ml of milk, cook it up, and then top it with some fresh fruit. Yum.
Smoothie – And if you want to change this up, use the same proportions that you’d use for the porridge, just don’t cook it but put it into a blender with a ripe banana and a handful of frozen berries or any favorite frozen fruit. Blend it all up and enjoy.
Pancakes – and by putting together the following – 2 heaped tablespoons of granola dust with a heaped tablespoon of wholemeal self-raising flour, 1 mashed banana, and an egg you’ll have delicious pancakes too. Mix it all together and then fry it up as you would any pancake. This is so good, quick, and easy.

Hot drink – and, last but not least, how about a hot drink when it is cold outside. All you need is 25g of granola dust with 200ml of your favorite milk. Mix it all together, warm it up within the microwave or on the stove and let it warm you up from the inside.
ingredients
The versatility of the ingredients is what makes me come back to this recipe all the time. I no longer reach for chocolate when I have the need for something sweet, instead, I reach for the granola dust because it has cocoa powder in it too. This totally satisfied the chocolate and sweet tooth cravings. I also come away feeling satisfied and not guilty, which for me is a win-win solution on any given day.
The other base ingredient is nuts. The options are endless here and I love this because I always find it hard to repeat recipes as is every time in the same way. Also when we travel I am not sure which type of nuts I will be able to find, so I love the versatility here.
And then the next base ingredient is dried fruit. The endless variety here is superb. I mostly have a small supply of dried fruit in the pantry and I often just use up what I have. I haven’t yet found a combination that does not work.
And the surprise ingredients are coffee and cocoa, this just adds a beautiful depth and flavor that is not obvious, but very delicious.

plain oatmeal granola dust basics
This recipe I found in one of Jamie Oliver’s recipe books – EVERYDAY SUPERFOOD. He has many good recipe books but if I had to choose, this collection in this book is the best for me. It is the recipe book that I open the most and have done so for the last 6 years.

This recipe is a standard addition to our morning routine, and we know it is healthy and not loaded with heaps of sugar. I make it regularly and so you can often see it on our shelf. Breakfasts can be a crazy time in any home whether you are a parent trying to get school kids out of the door or if you’re a busy business person trying to fit in a sports program. Or. if you’re like me – a person who loves breakfast and wants to have something quick, easy, healthy, and delicious, and did I say, fast? This fits the bill for me and my family. Sometimes it’s super quiet and some days we’re dashing out of the door and this works for us, every time.

I hope that this will soon become one of your family favorites too. You may try to make something else, other than the cereal, hot or cold, the pancake, or the drinks.
This is one of those base staples that just lends itself to experimentation. Have fun and enjoy every healthy mouthful, a great way to start the day, and/or a great quick snack or warming drink. Enjoy!
