The best sports bra for hiking and backpacking may not be what you would think it to be! But keep reading, I have found a great option that works for me in the summer hot weather and in the cold winters too. Remember that I love the simple solutions for our trails, triathlons, and travels. This is my sports underwear hack;). And, yes I could wear this set every day too.
best TYPES of sports bras for hiking trails and backpacking
The best sports bras for hiking trails and backpacking are for me the ones that have multi-functions. The best hiking bras then are the sports swimming bras. Let me explain. A regular bra is limiting for me for two reasons:
- I sweat a lot, and a normal bra does just not dry out quickly enough for me.
- I love to swim wherever I can, and I love a quick change or should I say a quick strip down and jump in!
When you go hiking you do not need a high-impact sports bra because hiking and walking are both low-impact. A low-impact sports bra will do just nicely and it’s versatile too. I love this type of perfect sports bra because I can go to the gym in it, go for a run in it, and also jump into the water. Did you get it? I love swimming.
As my hiking sports bra, I always choose this sports swimming set even if swimming may not be an option. It is always a great choice because it is comfortable and robust and it does not cut into my rib cage or ride up.
The win-win combination:
- comfortable bra
- quick drying material because of the synthetic materials
- the bottom half does not ride up
style for the best sports bra for hiking trails and backpacking
There are many variations and styles to choose from. It does depend on whether you are also planning on needing a high-impact sports bra or if low-impact activities are all you will be needing it for. The straps of the bra would play a significant role in this decision. I have two different styles:
- over the shoulder with adjustable straps these are thinner straps and have removable cups and removable pads
- cross-over wide straps on the back
Neither has a back closure because I prefer to slip the bra over my head. The different styles have their pro and cons and your personal style will of course play a role. I love the cross-over style on the back, I just love the way it looks, feels, and sits under my sports clothing and my everyday clothing too.
Your body type and your need for enough support will determine what you are looking for in a strap style. The best option and best bra for you will be one that you keep reaching for. These are good and offer all the support anyone would need when walking and hiking.
Material for your best sports bra for hiking trails and backpacking
I mostly look for synthetic fabrics because I find that they dry quickly for me. This is a very important factor for me because I sweat a lot when I walk or run and I hate it when my bra does not dry out quickly.
Merino wool is a very good option for me that I look for too but it is not so easy to find in bras, easier in the bottom half and it can also be a bit more pricy. I do however love my Merino wool T-shirts. They are excellent choices for me too as a layering top and they travel well too.
size does matter
If you have large busts and are looking for great support – you will find that a sports swimsuit will work well in this hiking low-impact scenario. If you wear and need C cups or have large breasts then the extra support from a sports swimsuit will give you the additional support and you will find it a perfect fit too.
B cups and smaller, this will be great to offer medium support because that is all you will be wanting and needing in your bra.
Different sizes indeed need different functions in a bra. A sports swimsuit top or bra will very often fit the bill.
day in and day out
I am always looking for a simple solution to all the things I get up to and want to get up to. For me, they are:
- hot weather
- cold weather
- everyday bra
Can I have one, good quality item do everything? One day I want to go on a long trip and only travel with a carry-on backpack or suitcase. I want everything in that bag to cover the daytime sports and hiking activities, and then also to have pretty sets of clothing to wear out at night. Would you love this or is this too restrictive for you?
best sports bra, summer & winter ready
I love wearing this sports swimsuit set in both summer and winter.
In summer, when we are walking or hiking we also get very hot and are always on the lookout for a place to dip in and have a swim. Having the sports swimsuit set on makes this transition so easy. The summer outer layer is usually a light vest and shorts and taking them off and putting them back on after the swim is a breeze.
I enjoyed this in summer and it helped bring my core temperature down to continue on the hike.
In winter we often find that you have to change one or more of your outer layers after a long hiking stretch to put on a new T-shirt or layer. Sweat builds up and if you stop and have a lunch or snack break then the sweat on your body can make you very cold and potentially sick.
By wearing my best sports bra for hiking trails and backpacking in winter, making this change is easy because stripping down to a sports bra swimsuit top can be done publically too. So easy if you are in a mixed group and there aren’t any changing facilities available.
